Dictionaries are very difficult books to review. They are really only comparable to other similar works and so I considered this book in light of the Cambridge Dictionary of Astronomy, which I have owned for many years.
Ince’s work covers all aspects of astronomy, telescopes, constellations, planets, astronomers, laws and equations – and it does this clearly and concisely with over 1700 entries. Some basic illustrations and schematics help to explain concepts or designs.
Anyone involved in astronomy would benefit from a handy reference book such as this. Being pocket-sized, it would fit into an observing kit more easily than other larger astronomy dictionaries.
