ASNSW Membership Fee Structure
In order to maintain a high standard of service to our Members, the committee recently decided to review membership fees. The revised fees cover increased Public Liability and other Insurance premiums and increases in general expenses across the board.
Another major cost is the production of Universe – and feedback from Members (and other Societies!) suggests that this monthly publication is the ASNSW service our Members most appreciate and wish to see maintained.
The revised fee structure is in line with fees charged by other similar Societies, but still allows us to produce a monthly journal. Most other Societies have reduced the frequency of their publications to bi-monthly or quarterly.
The committee would also like to encourage more members to receive the journal electronically – over 350 members do so at present. While there are some fixed costs and effort associated with Universe, the direct printing costs of each copy are very significant.
If you elect to take the journal in a PDF version via email, you will receive it 7 - 10 days earlier than the printed and mailed version. The electronic version is also in full colour. With the growing number of images accompanying the Universe articles, this is a great advantage.
MEMBERHSIP FEES:
| Membership Type | Electronic/E-mailed Universe | Printed/Posted Universe |
| Full Member | $52 ($57 overseas) | $75 ($95 overseas) |
| Associate Member | $47 ($26 No Universe) | $70 |
| Student Member | $26 | N/A |
The Society has also introduced a one-off Joining Fee of $20 for NEW Members. This fee covers initial establishment costs, a copy of the Constitution, Membership and Name Badges and a New Members Kit.
TYPES OF MEMBERSHIP:
- FULL membership is available to any Australian resident and entitles the member to voting rights and access to all ASNSW functions and facilities (subject to accreditation procedures).
- ASSOCIATE membership is available to any person who is the spouse, partner or dependent child (person under 18) living at the same residential address (family home) as a Full member. Associate members are entitled to all the rights of a Full member with the exception of voting rights.
If any Associate member leaves the family home, they must take out separate Student or Full membership (as applicable). This may be done at the commencement of the next financial year. There will be no joining fee imposed and the date of joining will be deemed to be the date that the Associate member first joined.
- STUDENT membership is only available to persons who are less than 18 years of age or a full-time student at a school, university, college or other tertiary institution. It entitles the member to all the rights of an Associate member. Upon turning 18 years old or ceasing full-time study, student members shall automatically change to Associate membership.
- HONORARY membership entitles the member to all the rights of full membership except voting rights if, at the time of being accepted as an Honorary member, the person did not have voting rights.
- LIFE membership entitles the member to all the rights of full membership, including full voting rights. Life membership may be awarded by the association at a special general meeting in recognition of a member’s outstanding service to the association. Life members will not be required to pay the annual subscription.
