22 August 2018 - Session 6: Finding and focusing and selecting a target

Presentation: Selecting, Finding and Focusing

Finding, Focusing and Following are three essential F’s. You need to be able to find your object, focus it accurately and follow it for extended periods. We have already discussed following your object in Session 5 and here we talk about finding and focusing your object. Also, you will need to select a target that suits your equipment setup.  It’s no good having a galaxy which occupies a minute spot in the centre of your image, or trying to image a nebula that is far too big for your field of view.

Objective: select a suitable target, locate it with the telescope and ensure that it is well focused
Motivation: accurately find a target
