PAYMENT PROBLEMS
How do I pay with my credit card if I don't have a PayPal account?
After I go to PayPal, it gives me an error message about not being able to load the requested web page and says something about cookies.
I already thought I paid with PayPal. Why are you still sending reminders?
I tried to pay online with my credit card details saved in PayPal, but it didn't work.
I tried to pay online with a credit card, but after putting in all the details, the website went pale and locked up.
Logging In (for new members): On the left-hand side of the home page, you will see a box that has places to enter your E-mail* and Password*. Enter the email address to which your advice of acceptance of membership was sent. Enter the password that was sent to you in that email. Once logged in, you will be able to set up your own password.
Loggin In (for existing members): Enter your email address and password in the boxes where indicated on the home page. If you have forgotten your password, you can easily request a password reset. Follow the instructions below for "Requesting a New Password".
I Want To Pay By Cheque: It is still best to "renew" online even if you don't want to pay online. When you select "Pay offline", the system sends you an email invoice with the correct amount. It also makes it easier when the treasurer has to update your records in the database (only one page needs updating instead of two). It also sends a copy of the invoice to the treasurer showing that you are "in the system" as a pending renewal (as opposed to just not hearing anything). Please give it a go!
Renewing Mutliple Memberships: From 2016, new fields have been added to the Memberhip Renewal page to allow a member to renew for for any number of other related members (full, associate or student). These related memberships may be spouses, partners or student offspring. Note that this process is NOT automatic and database updates to the related memberships must be made manually by the treasurer. However, this does streamline the renewal process. You can now pay for yourself, related members, Wiruna sites and yearbooks all with a single transaction. This will work if the treasurer already knows about your relationships. If you and another member are related in some way but the relationship has not been set up yet, or you're not sure, see Related Memberships.
How to pay Wiruna fees (Life Members): Life members do not need to renew each year. If you are logged in and you go to "Renew membership", you will see the message: "You have a current Lifetime Membership which does not need top be renewed." Instead, you need to go to the Miscellaneous Payments page: http://www.asnsw.com/civicrm/contribute/transact?reset=1&id=4. The Treasurer relies on you knowing how much you need to pay. Make your payment for the appropriate amount. When you complete the payment successfully, you and theTreasurer will both receive an automatically-generated email confirmation and the Treasurer will update your records accordingly.
Viewing or Updating your Membership Record: Once logged in, you will see a "User Menu" to the left. Click on "My Account". There you will see your address and phone numbers that are recorded in the database. These may be updated at any time by clicking on the "Edit" Tab. The "Account" link allows you to change your password or email address. The "Member Details" link allows you to update your address or phone numbers. The Universe Delivery, Astronomy Yearbook and Wiruna Site Rental entries are based on your most recent renewal payment and are not editable.
Requesting a New Password (for existing members who are new to this site or who have forgotten their password): On the left-hand side of the home page, you will see a box that has places to enter your E-mail* and Password*. If you have not been to the site before, or if you have simply forgotten your password, you need to click "Request new password". Another box will open where you need to enter the email address that would be recorded in our system for you. Then click "Email new password". An email will be sent to you. If you don't see the email in your inbox, check your junk mail box. Open the email and click on the link in the email to set up your own password. You should then have access to all member material on the website and you will be able to update your own contact details, check membership, etc. You will also receive various automated email messages (refer Unsubscribe Messages below).
Mailing Lists: Currently (December 2013) there is no automatic system for the ASNSW mailing lists. If you wish to receive International Astronomical Union (IAU) Circulars or mailings posted by the Astroimaging Group, please email listmanager@asnsw.com with your request to be added to or removed from the relevant list(s).
User Names (for all members): Please note that your email address is your "user name" to log in to our online database. Therefore, each member needs to have a unique email address IF they want to be able to access their individual record. However, if you currently share an email address with another member, you will be able to renew for a related member who shares your email account or does not have an email address of their own (see next bit).
Related Memberships: Known relationships have been set up so that you are able to UPDATE DETAILS for a related member (spouse, partner or child). Click on the "Manage related members" link to check if you have a related member.
Dates are wrong on my payment confirmation email: There are two dates shown on the email that gets sent to you (and the treasurer) when you pay your renewal.
How do I know if my membership is up to date? Simply click on "Renew membership" on the User menu at left and your paid-to date appears in the pale green band near the top of the page.
I've asked for a password reset but didn't receive any email: Chances are that the confirmation email ended up in your junk mail box. Check there first. If you still can't find it, you can request a manual password reset by emailing the treasurer.
If my membership lapses, do I have to rejoin? Generally, the ASNSW does not require you to pay another joining fee if you have been a past member. If your details are in the online member database and your membership has lapsed, you will not be able to log in. You'll need to email the treasurer and ask for your membership status to be reset to "grace", which will allow you to log in and pay the membership subscription for the current year.
How do I pay with my credit card if I don't have a PayPal account?
Complete all your details first. Leave the "Pay Later" box blank. Scroll right to the bottom and click on the "Checkout with PayPal" logo. On the PayPal screen, it shows you this display:
Click on the second option near the bottom, "Pay with a credit or debit card". You DO NOT have to sign up to PayPal when you select this option. There are more tips for completing your payment in the FAQ below about why we keep sending reminders.
After I go to PayPal, it gives me an error message about not being able to load the requested web page and says something about cookies. This error occurs if you have somehow gone to http://asnsw.com (note the missing "www"). Please check your bookmark or the link you used to get the ASNSW web page. It can also happen if you found the site in a Google search. You need to login to http://www.asnsw.com and ensure that the "www" also is included in the URL when you go to make your payment. (The error is generated by PayPal saying that you came from a different web site from the one it is trying to send you back to.)
I already thought I paid with PayPal. Why are you still sending reminders? If you pay using PayPal, it's possible that you didn't complete all the necessary steps and your membership record was never updated. After you complete the transaction in PayPal it should return you to the ASNSW website. Then you must hit the "Confirm Contribution" button on the ASNSW web site to fully complete the transaction and update your membership record. If NOT done properly, the transaction remains incomplete and your account is not charged (PayPal ignores it). If completed fully, you should receive a confirmation email to your registered email address. There is a step-by-step guide with screenshots here.
I tried to pay online with my credit card details saved in PayPal, but it didn't work. It is possible that your credit card has reached its expiry date. Update your credit card details in your PayPal account or use another saved credit card or bank account in your PayPal account to make your payment.
I tried to pay online with a credit card, but after putting in all the details, the website went pale and locked up. This sounds like an issue with your browser or internet connection being slow or overloaded. Close your browser and other programs, wait ten minutes and try again. Sometimes using a different browser may help. Popular browsers are Internet Explorer, Microsoft Edge, Mozilla Firefox and Google Chrome. If unable to resolve the issue, please contact the treasurer. It is possible to take your credit card details over the phone, put them through the PIN payment processor, and manually update your membership record.
