ASNSW's Solar System Section

Section Leader:

Aims of the Section

The section exists to promote interest in observing Solar System objects and phenomena, and to help improve the level of understanding of “our neighbours”.

Activities

The Section works towards achieving its aims primarily through publications – pro-actively promoting the subject to members. From time to time, observing guides appear in the ASNSW journal Universe as well as articles focusing more on the science / news. Topics covered include the major planets, the Moon, eclipses, asteroids and comets.

Club talks at meetings and SPSP have also been given from time to time, and dedicated observing sessions are occasionally co-ordinated (eg. the impacts of Comet Shoemaker-Levy 9 with Jupiter in 1994, and the previously proposed Mars Opposition observing in 2003).
