ASNSW Radio Comet Search Program

Spurred on by the radio detection of the outburst of comet Schwassmann-Wachmann 3 in 1995, which prompted visual observations, ASNSW members are launching an entire sky radio survey in search of inactive comets waking up.

Principal Investigator for the Search, Greg Burnt, said "We will be particularly interested in inactive comets lurking in the Taurid meteor stream. These objects, running around like Taurids (bulls) in a china shop, need to be identified before they threaten the transparent skies of Wiruna"
