Apologies, our Young Writer competition is being rested in 2014 and 2015.
The Astronomical Society of New South Wales (ASNSW) Young Writer Award is a competition for talented students interested in astronomy. The competition is open to school students from Year 8 to Year 11 and is designed to encourage students to write articles on astronomy for publication in the ASNSW’s “Universe” journal. The information on this web page is available as a PDF file. All entries must be accompanied by a completed, signed ASNSW Young Writer Competition entry form.
The entrant must be a student in Year 8 through Year 11 and must either:
The entry must be the student’s own work and there is a limit of one entry per person. The entry should be written as a magazine article. Any astronomical topic is permitted including articles on astronomical experiences, history, projects or observations. Some examples of topics would include:
Entries should be submitted as a 1 to 2 page article using a portrait A4 page size and Times New Roman 12 point font. They may include images, graphs, diagrams or other visual material as appropriate, but must not exceed two A4 pages. Entries should be submitted in PDF format, but please also submit as a Word document (.doc or .docx) where possible.
Entries must be received by 5pm, 13th October 2013. Late entries will not be accepted. All entries must be accompanied by a fully completed ASNSW Young Writer Competition entry form. Entries can be submitted via email to editor@asnsw.com or by post to:

The judging panel will consist of three ASNSW Members who will rank entries based on writing style, effective use of language, creativity, accuracy and reader interest. Prize winners will be announced on the 4th November 2013.
