Member FAQs

As we get to know the new web platform, Members may strike issues or wonder about how certain things work. If you have a question, please don't hesitate to email the Treasurer. Below are some tips to help you with common problems.

Every effort was made to capture your current details from the old website and import them to the new website. If any of your personal details, interests or other choices are not current, you can easily edit these by:

  • logging in to the website
  • clicking on My Membership (on the Membership menu)
  • clicking on View My Memberships
  • clicking on View Membership Details underneath your Membership Card
  • scolling to the bottom so you can click Edit
  • updating information in text fields and checking the correct check-boxes and radio buttons
  • clicking Save and Close

Note that you CAN change your user name here if you want to go back to using your email address.

You can also take the link from the Edit screen if you want to update your password.

The system will lock you out after five (5) unsuccessful attempts to log in. The most common cause of lockout is entering the wrong User Name. Your User Name, in most cases, is your first initial and surname (no spaces, all lower case). Exceptions are some long names and hyphenated names.

If you have been locked out, you should email the Treasurer as soon as possible to have your account unlocked and a password reset email sent to you.

A lock-out may also mean that the "bots" have been trying to break into someone's account. This is unlikely, but is the reason why the Treasurer would like to be notified of all lock-outs experienced by Members.

It is easy to check your "Member Since" date:

  • Log in to the website.
  • Click on My Membership (on the Membership menu).
  • Click on View My Memberships.
  • Click on View Membership Details underneath your Membership Card.
  • Your "Member Since" date appears near the top underneath your three-digit member number.

Emailing from the new platform has two streams.

One stream is the Marketing Emails. These only go to users who have subscribed to the "Sign up to receive notifications about the next SPSP" mailing list. Members have not been added to this list (unless by your individual subscription), but you may subscribe if your membership lapses and you only want to be notified about the next Star Party.

The other stream is mailing from the Members area. Key points are:

  1. There is no way to prevent bulk emails going to specific members.
  2. Unfortunately, there is no easy way for Members to opt out of bulk Member emails.
  3. There are workarounds:
  • If you have more than one email account, you could use the less-frequently used email account for your ASNSW Membership.
  • If you have a relative who is also a Member (who will be able to renew for you) and you don't need to see UNIVERSE, i.e., you NEVER need to see any email from the ASNSW, then you can request that the Treasurer replaces your email with a special email that is ignored by the system. Note that, if you do this, you will not get renewal reminders or be notified of any ASNSW events or news.

From July 2021,UNIVERSE is being "delivered" through the new web platform. This is how it works:

  • The email won't have an attachment.
  • The UNIVERSE delivery email will go to all members, even if you also receive posted UNIVERSE. This is subject to any push-back from members who do not wish to see these emails once a month. However, without an attachment, there is not much cluttering up your inbox.
  • The email will contain a direct link to the current issue. When you click on the link, it will open the PDF file on your device. You should be able to download it to your computer easily.
  • If you have problems accessing UNIVERSE from the email, or would prefer not to receive the UNIVERSE delivery email, please notify the Treasurer.

Current and back-issues of UNIVERSE are available under Resources > UNIVERSE and other Documents.

Then use the Select a Category drop-down list to diplay UNIVERSE Magazine.

You will then see three Sub Categories:

Click on the Category of interest and you'll see a list of issues in order of publication date (most recent at the top).
Clicking on the title opens the issue in your browser. From the browser window, you can download or print the issue.

Listed on the Resources menu is a UNIVERSE Index that covers Issues from Sep 2011 to Dec 2019. This can be searched using Ctrl+F

For more recent issues, look under Resources > UNIVERSE and other Documents.

Then use the Select a Category drop-down list to diplay UNIVERSE Magazine.

You will then see three Sub Categories:

2020 issues have descriptors that can be searched using Ctrl+F
Issues from 2021 onwards also have descriptors that can be searched using Ctrl+F

If that seems too difficult, the website has a search box. However, that will return results from the entire website, not just UNIVERSE Magazines.
